Introduction
Allah says,
“By the Qur'an, full of
Wisdom”. [Yasin:2]
The Holy Quran is the greatest source of Science and Technology. We know it
that Quran and Sunnah are the main sources of Shariah which straight us in the
right way of life. But Quran is also the
source of modern science and technology. Besides Quran the Sunnah second source
of Islam also inspires us for science and technology. So Boswarth Smith says,
“The Quran is a book which is a poem, a code of laws, a book of common
prayer and a book of all science.”
Quran indication in Science
The first verses of the Quran is Read which inspire us to learn science and
technology. There are at least 750 verses in the Holy Quran which prescribed us
about science and technology like mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany,
Zoology, Geography, Geology and many other sciences are given below:
1.1. Mathematics: Mathematics is called the Soul of Science.
Without mathematics science is simply inactivated. Al-Quran has included some verses which are
related to Mathematics. Some verses of the mathematics are:
“Allâh it is He Who has created the heavens and the earth, and all that is
between them in six Days. Then He Istawâ (rose over) the Throne (in a manner
that suits His Majesty). You (mankind) have none, besides Him, as a Walî
(protector or helper etc.) or an intercessor. Will you not then remember (or be
admonished)”? (Surah – Sijdah : 4)
“The sun and the moon run on their fixed courses (exactly) calculated with
measured out stages for each”. (for reckoning, etc.) (Surah – Ar - Rahma: 5)
2. Physics: Physics is a such type of science of
Mechanics, Heat, Sound, Electricity, Light. Some verses of Quranul Karim have a
great similarities with Physics those are:
“Allâh is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The parable of His Light
is as (if there were) a niche and within it a lamp, the lamp is in glass, the
glass as it were a brilliant star, lit from a blessed tree, an olive, neither
of the east (i.e. neither it gets sun-rays only in the morning) nor of the west
(i.e. nor it gets sun-rays only in the afternoon, but it is exposed to the sun
all day long), whose oil would almost glow forth (of itself), though no fire
touched it. Light upon Light! Allâh guides to His Light whom He wills. And
Allâh sets forth parables for mankind, and Allâh is All-Knower of everything”. (Surah – An – Nur : 35)
“Do not the Unbelievers see that the
heavens and the earth were joined together (as one unit of creation), before we
clove them asunder?”
[Ambyia:30]
1.3. Chemistry: Chemistry is such a subject which discusses
about different chemical action-reaction of solid, Liquid and Gases items.
There are at least 50 verses in Holy Quran which indicates us to inform about
Chemistry. They are:
“Verily! In the creation of the heavens and the earth, and in the
alternation of night and day, there are indeed signs for men of
understanding”. (Surah – al – Imran :
190)
Say (O Muhammad SAW): "Travel in the land and see what was the end of
those who rejected truth." (Surah - an`am : 11)
“And Allah has created every animal from water”. [Nur:45]
1.4. Geology: Geology is the study of earth surface, rock,
soil and mountains. Allah says about this subject :
“And at the mountains, how they are rooted and fixed firm”? (Surah – Gashiya ; 19)
“When the earth is shaken with its (final) earthquake” (Surah – Ziljal : 01)
1.5. Botany: Botany is the part of Biology which concerns
with the study of whole Plants in the earth. There are about 88 verses in
Al-Quran which are linked with Botany such are:
“And We cause therein the grain to
grow, And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), And olives and date-palms”. (Surah – Abasa :
27 - 29)
“And the herbs and the trees - both (alike) bow in adoration”. [Ar-Rahman:6]
1.6. Zoology: Zoology is the
another part of Bio-logy. It also prescribed in Holy Quran. Allah says,
“We created man in the best design”.
[Tin:4]
“And Him who created the male and
the female”. [Layl:3]
“He created man from an
embryo”. [Alaq:5]
1.7. Agriculture: In this issue Allah says,
“Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower?” (Surah – Waqia : 64)
This verse teaches us that a farmer cannot grow the products. A product can
be certainly grown in the land by the willing of Almighty Allah.
1.8. Oceanography: Al Quran has
prescribed a lot of things of the Oceans, sees and rivers which is called
oceanography. Allah says,
He has let loosed the two seas (the
salt water and the sweet) meeting together. Between them is a barrier which
none of them can transgress. (Surah – Ar
- Rahman : 19 - 20)
1.9. Medical Science: Allah has mentioned so many things about
Medical Science which encourages us to learn medical science. Allah says,
“From what thing did He create him?” (Surah – Abasa : 18)
"And when I am ill, it is He who cures me” (Surah – Ash-Shu'arâ' - 80)
“They ask you about intoxicants and gambling: say, "In them there is a
gross sin, and some benefits for the people. But their sinfulness far outweighs
their benefit." [Baqara:219]
1.10. Health Theory And
Disease Protection:
Allah does not only teach us the medical science of body. Allah also
teaches us about the diseases of mind and its curiosity.
And We send down from the Qur'ân that which is a healing and a mercy to
those who believe (in Islâmic Monotheism and act on it), and it increases the
Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrong-doers) nothing but loss. (Surah – Bani Israel :
82)
A man can refresh his mind through this verse of Holy Quran.
11. Anatomy: There are several
verses of Quran about Anatomy. Those are:
And Allâh did create you (Adam) from dust, then from Nutfah (male and
female discharge semen drops i.e. Adam's offspring), then He made you pairs
(male and female). (Surah – Fatir : 11)
Has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood). (Surah –
Alaq: 02)
Verily, We have created man from Nutfah drops of mixed semen (discharge of
man and woman), in order to try him, so We made him hearer, seer. (Surah – AD - Dahr : 02)
“He created man (Adam) from sounding clay like the clay of pottery”. (Surah
– Ar - Rahman : 14)
12. Political Science: Some people
say it that there is no politics in Islam. But this people are completely
ignored from Al-Quran. Al-Quran is the best source for political science. Allah
says,
“And to Allâh belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is in the
earth. And all matters go back (for decision) to Allâh”. (Surah – Al - Imran :
109)
“Say (O Muhammad SAW): "O Allâh! Possessor of the kingdom, You give
the kingdom to whom You will, and You take the kingdom from whom You will, and
You endue with honour whom You will, and You humiliate whom You will. In Your
Hand[] is the good. Verily, You are Able to do all things”. (Surah – Al - Imran
: 26)
“The command (or the judgement) is for none but Allâh”. (Surah – Yusuf : 40)
13. Accounting: Al Quran said that,
“And We have appointed the night and the day as two Ayât (signs etc.).
Then, We have made dark the sign of the night while We have made the sign of
day illuminating, that you may seek bounty from your Lord, and that you may
know the number of the years and the reckoning. And We have explained
everything (in detail) with full explanation.” (Surah – Bani Israel : 12)
14. Atomic Energy: Al Quran said
that,
“So whosoever does good equal to the
weight of an atom (or a small ant), shall see it”. (Surah – Ziljal : 7)
15. Water Resources: Water is an
element of Human body. Allah has created
us from water. There are at least 60%-80% water in our body. Allah says,
“And We have made from water every living thing. Will they not then
believe”? (Surah – Anbia : 30)
“And Allah has created every animal from water”. [Nur:45]
1.16. Creative Science:
Quranic verses are also related to creative science like:
“She said: "O my Lord! How shall I have a son when no man has touched
me." He said: "So (it will be) for Allâh creates what He wills. When
He has decreed something, He says to it only: "Be!" and it is”.
(Surah – Al - Imran : 47)
“You make the night to enter into the day, and You make the day to enter
into the night (i.e. increase and decrease in the hours of the night and the
day during winter and summer), You bring the living out of the dead, and You
bring the dead out of the living. And You give wealth and sustenance to whom
You will, without limit (measure or account).” (Surah – Al - Imran : 27)
“They said: "We augur ill omen from you and those with you." He
said: "Your ill omen is with Allâh; nay, but you are a people that are
being tested." (Surah – Namal : 47)
17. Psychology: Al-Quran says,
“Those who believe (in the Oneness of Allâh - Islâmic Monotheism), and
whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allâh, Verily, in the remembrance
of Allâh do hearts find rest”. (Surah – Ra`d : 28)
1.18. Geography: Quran inspires us to travel whole for seeking
knowledge. Allah says,
“Say: "Travel through the earth and see what was the end of those who
rejected Truth." [Anam:11]
1.19. Astronomy:Before 1400
years from now no one had clear concept about astronomy. But Al-Quran indicated
a lot of verses which are connected with astronomy such are:
“They ask you about the phases of the moon! Say, "They provide a
timing device for the people, and determine the time of Hajj." [Baqara:189]
“It is He Who maketh the stars (as beacons) for you, that ye may guide
yourselves, with their help, through the dark spaces of land and sea: We detail
Our signs for people who know”.
[Anam:97]
“He committed the sun and the moon,
each running for a finite period”.
[Zumar:5]
1.20. Nutrition: Al-Quran
encourages us to eat Nutrious for
keeping our health good. Al Quran says,
“O ye who believe! Eat of the good things that We have provided for
you” [Baqara:172]
“O ye people! Eat of what is on earth, Lawful and good.” [Baqara:168]
1.21. Weather and
Climate: Al-Quran has a great
connection with weather and climate like:
“ Behold! in the creation of the heavens and the earth; in the alternation
of the night and the day; in the sailing of the ships through the ocean for the
profit of mankind; in the rain which Allah Sends down from the skies, and the
life which He gives therewith to an earth that is dead; in the beasts of all
kinds that He scatters through the earth; in the change of the winds, and the
clouds which they Trail like their slaves between the sky and the earth;-
(Here) indeed are Signs for a people that are wise”. [Baqara:164]
1.22. Radio Wave: It is
known to us that Radio wave has been introduced recently by scientists. But
Al-Quran has prescribed it 1400 years ago. Allah says,
“ He is certainly able to resurrect him. The day all secrets become
known”. [Taqweer:4-5]
“On that Day will she declare her tidings”
[Zilzal:4]
Hadiths inspiration regarding Science
There are many Hadith which inspired the Muslims for going to work about
searching knowledge. Such as;
Muhammad (Sm) said that :
“You have to go China for searching knowledge”.
“The seeking of knowledge is obligatory for every Muslim’’ (At – Tirmijhi,
Hadith No: 74)
“One who treads a path in search of knowledge has his path to paradise made
easy by God…” (Riyadh us – Saleheen,
Hadith No. 245)
“God, His angels and all those in Heavens and no Earth, even ants in their
hills and fish in the water, call down blessings on those who instruct others
in beneficial knowledge.”
(At – Tirmijhi, Hadith No: 74)
"Make use of the two remedies: honey and the Quran."
(At-Tirmithi)
Ali (Ra:) says, “If you be able to combinate anything like as electricity
or lighting by mixing mercury and metals eventually you will be the king of the
East and the West.”
Conclusion
Finally we can say that,
without any hesitation, The Holy Quran and The Hadith are the endless source of
science and technology of the Muslims. And the Muslim had been leader and able
to take world leadership in the middle age for their tremendous activities,
knowledge and success. But it is really sad to say is that Muslims are now lagging
behind then others nations without practicing proper science and technology. So
we should again research science and technology sincerely. Albert Einstein
says,
“Science without religion is lame and religion without science is blind.”
